Haven't been able to post for the last two weeks do to a move.  Well, actually two moves.  I moved into a new house the same week the company I work for was moving into a new building.  I cannot tell you how tired I am of lifting and moving boxes, not to mention all the clutter and chaos.  It' not quite all over yet, I still have a lot of things to put away, but at least I have enough done that I can get back to work.

Before the move I started working on some new pieces,  I talked about them in my previous post.  This week I was thinking about the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile crisis, which is coming up very shortly. Now keep in mind that I was only two at the time, so most of what I know is not from personal experience but from history class.  Still I had this thought, and wanted to throw a couple of things together just to see what I would come up with.  I do like the direction it's going, but I think I need to go a little deeper.  I am a little stuck, so if you would indulge me I would like to work out my thoughts in public; so to speak.

I know there's something here, I just need to thinking this through. There was a real since of a pending war with the Soviet's and it was going to start just 90 miles from American soil.  Tensions and fear were high and the cold war was in full swing. The crisis introduced the concept of  mutual assured destruction (MAD) as a deterring factor for all things relating to nuclear weapons and it has become a part of the to American vocabulary.  There needs to be something that can tie in the American family into the image a little more!?  Since I am working with images of American cars as the unifying factor in this series of works, I may want to use a 1962 Station Wagon.  Now, keep in mind that October is not only the month the crisis took place, but it used to also be the month when all the new model year cars were in the showrooms.  This is something I do remember form my earliest years, like the leaves changing colors in the fall, you could always count on the fact that the new cars would be out in October.  And the family car of choice in 1962,  was the station wagon!  There were just as many station wagons on the road then as there are SUV's today.  I think if I also work in idyllic sense of family or family life into the collage I believe I will start to see my vision for this piece come into focus.

Pop Art has always been strong influence in my art. The works of Rosenquist, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselm, and Ed Ruscha, have always had a strong pull for me and I think some of these ideals can bee seen in my work.  Recetnly, I've been working on some new digital art that is centered on events and cars of my youth.  I am hoping to create more art like this that has the Pop Art influence, but that will allow me to bring together images that touch on my past, but time to my live today.

I've been playing with some new concepts over the past few years here is one of them.  This one I call "The Devil flies a Bomber".  It has lead to some new pieces that I've recently competed.  I'll be placing them on Fine art America and Society 6 soon.

It's Been A Long TIME!!

WOW! time sure moves fast these days!  It's hard to believe it's been two years since I've made my last entry on my blog.  I've been so busy in the studio and working on the house that I've lost track of all time.  But it's all good!!  Work on the house was competed in November, and I've had all this time to catch up in the studio. So many ideas, So little time.  I have also been busy working on setting up a gallery on http://society6.com/GreggHamby and http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/gregg-hamby.html. You've seen some of the work on this blog. However, much of the work will be new pieces that I've completed in the past year, and I will be uploading new art weekly.

Here is one of four works I call Mouse Parts.  It is a minimalist work that I did of Mickey Mouse.
